jonah-hill-from-moneyball asked: How would you describe your art style? Or your inspirations? Im trying to find art similar to yours but I have no idea what to search for :/
I’m not sure how to describe my style! When I realized comics weren’t just about superheroes and started to draw my own (5 or so years ago? oh boy) two big comic artist influences for me were Bryan Lee O’Malley (Scott Pilgrim) and Liz Prince. I think a lot of cartoon shows influenced my style also, and still do, along with animated movies!! Have you seen the cloudy with a chance of meatballs movies? the character design on that (along with everything else!!) is so incredible! (IT IS ALSO HILARIOUS see it already everyone) so um, aah! Inspiration wise, I’m inspired a lot by other comic artists/cartoons & movies. I mainly follow on tumblr other comic artists/people working in the cartoon industry.
Some of my current favourite comics people (I know I’ve missed a million, though! so sorry!)
Deep dark fears, anything by Marc Ellerby, Lize Meddings, Mitch Clem (read my stupid life here), Philippa Rice, Luke Pearson, Bethan Mure, Kevin Dart (uhh not really comics but cartoons! get your swoon on) Miranda Harmon, ink dick!!!!, Wishbow (more illustration that is so so nice) Adam Murphy, Isaac Lenkiewicz, Justin Chan (character design), Colleen Clark, Emma Thacker, Anna Syvertsson, Rob Cureton, casey’s comics, Luchie, Rachel Dukes, Particle Navigator, Bangs and Beard (!!! so good!!!) Madeline Flores, Sarah Sobole, Chris Baldie, Penny Loafing, Marmushka, Mike Lowery, Mel Stringer, Seo Kim, Matt Cummings, Joe List, Antony Holden, Nation Of Amanda, Jane Mai, Becca Tobin !!!!, Dave Valeza, Adam Muto, Ambird, Feel Afraid
AND LIKE A MILLION MORE
but i’ve run out of time
if you want to check them out, favourite cartoon shows:
chowder (which is on netflix!! Greenblatt’s blog is here also!) Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, Gravity Falls, Adventure Time (isn’t it everyones?) Gravity Falls, Steven Universe (I haven’t watched much but what I have watched has been bloody excellent) and I am really into Rick and Morty at the moment (which I think gets uploaded onto youtube every week?)
Clone High is probably my favourite cartoon show and I love SuperJail (I’ve only seen the first series, though). I don’t think these shows influence my work style wise but the humour of clone high and the fluid animation in the gory scenes of SuperJail mean you should totally check both of those out.
I DON’T KNOW IF THIS HAS BEEN HELPFUL
BUT HERES A BUNCH OF STUFF I LIKE and I feel like the stuff I like inspires me so
I hope y’all enjoy it too.
bonus ramble: I find a lot of my favourite comics people on tumblr, twitter, and at the indie comics section at comic conventions.
